DOLDRUMS in case you do not navigate with sails, is the situation in which lacking winds of any kind, you remain put, not moving in any direction, such is Puerto Rico, USA.
There seems to be an urge in the government and its agencies to offer subsidies to everyjuan for every imaginable situation requiring payment for services.
One third of the population does not pay for electricity or water/sewage systems. Either that, or the payment is the minimal amount possible as if this services were a present from nature, as air is
The millions owed by every municipality to water and electricity agencies is astounding. Hotels, manufacturing and every other private enterprise receive ridiculous subsidies as if they were not making a profit already.
The train and bus services are a similar example. As a senior citizen I pay 35 cents for each trip in the elevated, efficient train run with electricity, instead of the $1.50 non students and other with similar discount pay for each trip. No public transportation system or any service can operate for a long run with such waste.
The private sector is also affected by this absurd imposed subsidies and discounts. Production companies of plays, musicals, concerts of any kind have decided to move their operations to other cities and towns where the 20/30/50 percent discounts to senior citizens are the rule.
I believe that people in general, private companies and municipalities should to pay a fair amount for any service.
A country with a public debt of 100 billions should focus on getting
was is due. All this time wasted giving away resources, energy must stop now..
In the case of train fare I will happy to pay one dollar instead of 35 cents!
